Kathleen Taylor
Performance Troupe, Ballet, Technique
At the age of seven, Kathleen was introduced to the art of dance, and her passion was ignited instantly. In particular, she was drawn to the styles of classical ballet, contemporary and jazz. These forms allowed her to concentrate on developing her technique, flexibility and strength as a dancer and acknowledge the self-discipline and dedication needed to undertake dance examinations, competitions, and elite performance groups, which also positively influenced other areas of life such as her academic education journey.
During her school-aged years, Kathleen made an effort to involve herself in as many dance-related extra-curricular activities as possible, which, in turn, became some of her fondest memories from her youth. For instance, overseas and interstate dance tours, the ten years she performed in Southern Stars, being selected as a member of the prestigious Illawarra and South East Regional Performing and Touring Ensemble and being involved with the Sydney Schools Spectacular with both her school group and as a featured performer in the Senior Ballet Ensemble. Furthermore, she gained experience in creative development and the intricacies of choreographing group routines during her six years at the NSW Public Schools Regional and State Dance Festival,
Kathleen joined KC Dance Company South Coast as a student when it opened its doors in 2012 and was immediately attracted to the studio's philosophy and creative approach. Under the direction of Cherie Kowe, Kathleen was given the opportunity to expand her skillset and begin teaching classes in 2013, which she was dedicated to for the next seven years. This role appeared a natural fit and led to her choreographing numerous winning competition routines and supporting many successful Australasian Dance Association (A.D.A) examination candidates. Kathleen has returned to the KC teaching staff in 2023 after focusing on her studies at the University of Wollongong for the last few years and is excited to continue fostering the growth of the dancers and intends to support their love of the art as she knows how much fulfilment it can bring to their life - just like it did hers.
